Made to Measure | Felt Hats (Beginners +)

This workshop explores the techniques required to make a beautiful hat that is the right size for you.  This project requires attention to detail, some measuring and fine finishing.
 
In this workshop you will
  • learn how to lay out your wool evenly and finely
  • understand how to calculate shrinkage
  • create a made-to-measure resist 
  • focus on creating high-quality fine felt
  • take home a stylish one-of-a-kind hat

What to bring
  • a couple of old towels (ie small bath towel and a hand towel)
  • bubblewrap (50cm x 3m) - you can buy this at the Post Office
  • bar of glycerine soap (Pear's soap can be purchased in most supermarkets)
  • scissors
  • a ruler and tape measure
  • notepad/pen/pencil
  • a plastic carrier bag (for taking home felt and wet towels)
  • a packed lunch
  • (optional) silk fabric and fibres such as old scarves, blouses, skirts for use in creating pattern and texture
