Silk Prefelts | Abstract Felt Wall Art (Beginners)

Vibrant colours and exciting textures
Saturday 20 June 2015
10.30 am - 4.30 pm
Cost £60 (including all materials)
In an idle moment, I was thinking about my jewellery collection. I'm sure you have something similar...mine is a mixture of inherited, bought and gifted. In particular, I have a lot of brooches, many of which aren't really my style, but which I would like to look at...if they weren't in a box.
The idea I came up with for displaying my brooches is the basis for this first workshop of 2015. Jewellery adds a new dimension to the felt, creating interest, texture and a touch of glamour.
In this workshop you will
- learn wet-felting techniques
- create prefelt for decoration
- use wool tops, knitting yarns and silks
- experiment with colour and texture
- design a functional and decorative wall hanging
What to bring:
- A small selection of jewellery: brooches are particularly good, but bring whatever you like
- a couple of old towels (ie small bath towel and a hand towel)
- any interesting mohair yarns or old silk scarves you may have
- a plastic carrier bag (for taking home felt and damp towel)
- bar of glycerine soap (unscented if possible - if not, Pear's will do)
- notepad/pen
- packed lunch
