Seabed. Felt wall hanging
Seabed.....handmade felt wall hanging by Heather Potten
The next big event in my felting calendar is at The Birnam Arts Centre, Dunkeld. I have been working on the piece above for weeks, so it is very exciting to know that it is now ready and has been delivered to Ann Ross, one of the organisers of this exhibition. The details below are from the Birnam website.

"The Scottish Felters - Felt Excited
Tickets: Free
Time: 02:00pm

29 September - 3 November

The Scottish Felters - a branch of the International Felt Makers Association, brought together by Scottish felter Ewa Kuniczak - are back with yet another thrilling collection of their latest work, with plenty to enjoy, amuse, and admire including items to wear, accessories and ornamental felt workss, large and small.

The last time the felters were here they caused a storm.... the exhibition features a rich diversity of different types of handmade felt for home and personal use, drawing upon notions from a variety of sources, with designs to delight and intrigue...."

And here's how to get there. Really hope to see you at the end of the month...

Ashore Opening - an exhibition of textural sculpture

11/2/2011

Last Friday, October 28, saw the opening of the exhibition Ashore. Sue, Jiri and myself spent almost a week getting Gallery 3 at Art's Complex ready for our opening night.
The first guests arrived at around 6 and the last left well after 9. What an evening! We estimated there were around 75-80 people, all the food disappeared and most of the wine, we made 5 sales and talked ourselves hoarse.
Over the course of the last year or so, lots of people have helped make this exhibition possible.
Special thanks are due to
Steve Agnew for all his advice, suggestions, encouragement, practical help and occasional nagging, Nicky Orr for believing in me well before I did, Ruth Nicol for her words of wisdom and Alison Whyte for her PR knowhow.
I'm hoping to have some better quality pics to show you, but here are a selection.....

Coming Ashore

10/27/2011

This has been the week that was. As usual I have been juggling the whole feltmaking business with helping my husband run our computer training school. However, it's been a little bit more pressured than usual with the opening for Ashore coming up tomorrow.
So, Monday saw me at Art's Complex with Jiri Holcik (the wood carver I'm exhibiting with) lugging huge pieces of cherry tree into Gallery 3. Needless to say, I was doing more of the gaffering and less of the lifting. We then started putting my pieces up on the wall.
Tuesday, we were in again, this time with Sue Horsburgh (the other feltmaker in the exhibition) as well. We spent most of the afternoon putting her work on the walls, rearranging the cherry tree trunks, finding a drinks table, and making endless lists of what still had to be done.
From there, we went to the computer school to work on a price list, artists' profiles and, most importantly, a shopping list for the opening night soiree!
Anyway, the long and the short of it is....that it's almost tomorrow and I'm so excited! Yes, we still have quite a lot to do, but it will all be ready for 28 October at 6.30pm.
Looking forward to the party!
